Ganesha is one of the most loved deities in Hinduism. Each Puji, a Hindi worship service, starts with a prayer to this god. He is prayed to when one needs fortune for travelling or a business venture. He stands for beginning and change combined with protection and calmness. He embodies wisdom and intelligence. He is the master of sciences, poetry, music and dance. Most buisnessman consider him as their protector. For many Hindu people, the first thing that goes into a new house is a statue of Ganesha.

Legend tells that Parvati, the wife of Shiva, made Ganesha from mud and water, looking like a human figure. Shiva found the naked man infront of his bedroom and, in a jealous mood, choped his head off. When he figured his mistake, he decided that the first creature passing by has to give its head for his son. That is why Ganesha has the head of an elephant.
